After surviving repeated threats and severe emotional distress, Zainab found safety and healing through psychosocial support provided by Olive Community Development Initiative (OCDI). Her story is a powerful reminder that timely mental health support can restore hope and transform lives.

“I lived in constant fear, unsure if I would survive another day.” — Zainab, 31
For Zainab, life became unbearable when repeated threats to her life began coming from one of her clients. What began as fear soon grew into overwhelming anxiety, leaving her emotionally drained and constantly afraid for her safety.
Each day felt like living under a shadow.
The persistent threats took a severe toll on her mental health, pushing her into deep emotional distress and depression. The fear became so overwhelming that remaining in her community in Kpada was no longer an option.
In search of safety, Zainab made the difficult decision to leave everything behind and relocate to Patigi, where she sought refuge with her sister.
Although she escaped the immediate danger, the emotional wounds remained.
Fear, anxiety, and uncertainty continued to shape her daily life. Even simple routines became difficult as trauma disrupted her sense of peace and stability.
During this difficult period, Zainab was connected to psychosocial support and counselling through Olive Community Development Initiative (OCDI).
At OCDI, she found more than support, she found a safe space to heal.
Through regular counselling sessions with a psychologist, Zainab began to process her trauma, understand its impact on her mental health, and develop healthier coping strategies. Session after session, she slowly rebuilt her confidence and regained control of her life.
Hope returned.
Today, Zainab feels emotionally stronger, safer, and better equipped to face the future. The anxiety that once controlled her life has significantly reduced, replaced by renewed strength and hope.
“The support I received changed my life. It helped me heal from fear and anxiety and gave me hope again. I am deeply grateful to OCDI for standing by me during one of the most difficult times in my life.”
Zainab’s story reminds us that psychosocial support can be life-changing for survivors of violence and trauma.
No one should have to live in fear. Access to mental health support can restore hope, rebuild confidence, and help survivors heal.
