To spark curiosity and inspire innovation, VSO-ICS volunteers in partnership with Olive Community Development Initiative (OCDI) hosted a Science Fair Competition in Asa LGA, empowering junior secondary school students to showcase their creativity, critical thinking, and passion for science.

On Thursday, 29 November 2018, VSO-ICS volunteers, in partnership with Olive Community Development Initiative (OCDI), organized a Science Fair Competition for four public schools in Asa LGA at Apata Ajele Community Secondary School. The event brought together Junior Secondary School students (JSS 1–3) to showcase their skills and potential through interactive science experiments, quizzes, and public presentations.
The competition was designed to ignite interest in science and technology, strengthen critical thinking, and encourage creativity through hands-on learning and student-designed models. It also created a platform for students to build confidence and develop essential psychomotor skills.
The event was attended by key stakeholders, including representatives from the Kwara State Ministry of Education, parents, teachers, and community members. At the end of the competition, Community Secondary School, Apata Ajele emerged in 1st position, followed by Ayegun Araromi Secondary School, Ogele Community Secondary School, and Lasoju Comprehensive High School.
All participating students were recognized with gifts and certificates, reinforcing the importance of encouraging young minds to explore, innovate, and excel in science.
